Tailored holidays for seniors on the Costa Brava

The Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board presented its initiatives in accessible and senior tourism at FiraGran, the 24th Fair for the Elderly of Catalonia.

The Board presented the activities included in Els sentits de la descoberta (The Senses of Discovery), the digital book of inclusive experiences in the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees in which hosts with different abilities from the area guide us through the experience. Senior tourism proposals from towns such as Lloret de Mar, Castell-Platja d’Aro and S’Agaró were also presented at the fair.

Platja d’Aro for everyone

Platja d’Aro is an open-air shopping centre. Its seafront of more than two kilometres of beach complements the small, stony coves of S’Agaró, where you can enjoy a coastal trail that turns into a stroll among pine trees and cliffs. The cobbled streets of the historic centre of Castell d’Aro, which take you back in time, round off the proposal.

Castell-Platja d’Aro and S’Agaró have 16 health parks, spaces dedicated to pétanque, yoga and cycling. Moreover, its surroundings are perfect for Nordic walking and hiking. In this hiking guide you can access more or less demanding initiatives that also include accessible proposals, such as an urban route around the sculptures of Platja d’Aro and a tour on the Ridaura lakes.

Platja d’Aro is part of the Baix Empordà Regional Council’s Tourism Accessibility Plan and aims to promote the municipality as an accessible destination. It has several accredited areas, such as the Tourist Office, where there is also a magnetic loop, a map in Braille and pictorial representation of public services. In addition, during the summer season, Playa Grande, Cala Rovira and Sa Conca have walkways and lifelines, adapted toilets and showers, a shaded area, amphibious chairs and crutches, and a bathing assistance service. And if you need to find a parking space for people with reduced mobility, you can do it quickly with the free Park4dis app.

“Lloret de Mar can be enjoyed at any age”.

This is what Lloret de Mar, a town that adapts to the needs of its visitors, has to offer. Peaceful strolls by the sea or visits to Lloret’s historical and architectural heritage are just some of the suggestions this town has to offer for seniors. You can check them all out on the section of Lloret Turisme website that is dedicated to senior tourism.

A good way to discover Lloret de Mar is to enjoy the walking tours that take you through the woods around Lloret and along the coastline through the coastal trail. In this case, whether you head north towards Tossa de Mar or south towards Blanes, the coastal path is an excellent way to combine sporting activities with the magnificent views of the Costa Brava.

In the cultural sphere, Lloret de Mar offers a wide range of activities to discover the history and character of the town from different perspectives: the Iberian Lloret, the Lloret of the Indianos, the maritime Lloret… Active tourism and healthy gastronomy will allow you to enjoy a holiday full of health and wellbeing. And in 2023, Lloret de Mar has the honour of being the Capital of Catalan Culture. Another reason to visit this seaside town in La Selva.
