Six routes for everyone to enjoy cycling

If you want to feel free and independent, if you want to improve your fitness or if you want to sleep better, ride a bike! Today we bring you benefits for body, mind and spirit with the proposal of Play & Train and We Bike Together, a programme that promotes sport for everyone, specifically adapted cycling. Here are a series of routes to enjoy cycling in the Costa Brava and in the Girona Pyrenees.

To discover La Cerdanya…

The first route starts in the municipality of Alp, the easternmost of the lower Cerdanya. This is an easy loop route, suitable for all levels, which will allow you to enjoy a visual spectacle: green landscapes and high mountain crops that will soon be tinged with the colour of autumn. The route can be done by bicycle, handbike, electric handbike or tandem.

You can also discover the Alabaus area, in La Molina. From the track that surrounds the mountain, you can contemplate beautiful views of the Vall de Ribes and Puigmal. This circular route is very easy, it has no obstacles and can be done by bicycle, tandem or electric handbike.

Also in La Cerdanya, the Pla de les Forques offers spectacular views of the mountains. Leaving El Vilar, the route leads to the village of Queixans along a dirt track. Afterwards, a paved forest track with little traffic leads to the Pla de les Forques via a long, steady climb. This circular route is of medium difficulty and can be done by bicycle, tandem or electric handbike.

…and in the Baix Empordà

The Tren Petit route follows the old train route connecting Palamós and Palafrugell. It is a good way to discover the agricultural landscapes around the Gavarres massif. Another very easy route, ideal for handbike beginners, is this one along the last stretch of the Ter river. The route starts in Torroella de Montgrí and arrives at the mouth of the river, at Fonollera beach, opposite the Medes Islands. In both cases, the route can be done by bicycle, handbike, electric handbike or tandem.

Finally, you can explore the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter with this circular route that starts at La Pletera, where there is a car park reserved for people with disabilities.

You have no excuse to enjoy the benefits of cycling. Are you up for it?
