Discover new trails, experience the landscape

Photographer Roger Salanova

The Girona province is a match made in heaven for gravel fans. The Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees invite you to get away from the traffic and discover a whole network of safe secondary roads and paths ideal for enjoying on two wheels.

They say that gravel riding is more than a cycling discipline, it’s a lifestyle. If you’ve tried it, you know what we’re talking about. And here are two fantastic routes for exploring our region at your own pace: the Pirinexus and the river Ter route.

The Pirinexus is an emblematic loop that gives you the chance to connect with our landscapes, riding the more than 350 km of trails that link the Girona province with French soil via a network of greenways, rural tracks and quiet local roads. Taking you through the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone, Empordà, the valley of Camprodon and many other beautiful natural areas and towns along the way.

The river Ter Route starts in the Pyrenees, at altitude of 2,000 m, and takes you all the way to the Mediterranean Sea, a stone’s throw from the Medes Islands. It is 220 km of pure gravel pleasure, a well-marked route that follows the course of the river Ter.

Experience the thrill of the race

Gravel riding is not about competition. We know that. But the various races organised for this discipline provide a good opportunity to test your skills and have some fun with other members of the local and international gravel community. The Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees provide the backdrop for races, such as The Traka Gravel series, Sa Costa Brava, La Santa Vall, the Pirinexus 360 Gravel and the Girona Gravel Ride, the latter forming part of the calendar of sporting trials for the Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava – Girona Bike Show.
