To mention Tamariu is to conjure up images of the beach. The tranquillity of its coves in the wintertime and the radiant sunshine of the summer months, set against a backdrop that can only be described as the stuff of dreams. Along a winding road that sets out from Palafrugell – the municipality to which it belongs – hides this paradise of grainy sand and lush vegetation. With a beautiful promenade where you can take a pit stop to sample the local cuisine at one of the beachside restaurants and hotels, and bordered by the Liris and Aigua Dolça coves on either side, Tamariu is surrounded by rocky paths that invite you to discover some of the wildest corners of the Costa Brava. The Liris, with its legendary hundred-year-old fisherman’s hut and the diving board positioned on top of the rocks, is a real little gem. From there, if you head south along the GR92, passing rocky outcrops and forests as you go, you will reach Cala Pedrosa, a beautiful and, as its name suggests, pebbled beach. Staying on the GR92, after a brief detour into the forest, you will come to Cap de Sant Sebastià and its monumental complex, another wonder with exceptional views.
