Next to the promenade of Empúries and a stone’s throw from the entrance to the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya-Empúries (Catalan Museum of Archaeology – Empúries), the surrounding area of this beach is spectacular. On the right, it pays to take a walk by the wooden steps that lead us to a fantastic viewing point towards the Bay of Roses, the coast of Empúries and the village of L’Escala. On the hillside, you can see the Arch of Portitxol, a curious and much appreciated rock formation. This beach is 255 metres long and is of fine sand and is behind the historic Empúries Hostal. Both appeared in the Roger Gual film, “’Tasting Menu”.’ In the summer you have to pay to park in the nearest car park, next to the hostel. A good alternative is to get there walking down the promenade of Empúries. The beach boasts the European EMAS and ISO 14001 certifications.
