If you and your family love taking advantage of any opportunity to learn about nature and the life of animals, as well as enjoying the sea and the mountains, you can’t miss our range of family activities.
The Costa Brava and the Girona Pyrenees provide both young and old with plenty of enriching activities to learn and enjoy with your family. From the tranquillity of the sea to the mainland, the options are diverse and will provide you with unforgettable adventures: discovering the wonders of the underwater world, admiring brightly coloured fish and other marine beings in their natural habitat; having a go at agritourism to experience rural life first-hand, learning about the processes that ensure high-quality, locally-sourced food; or entering the fascinating world of beekeeping, where bees not only play a crucial role in pollination, but also teach us about the importance of sustainability and care for the environment. A route that invites us to expand our horizons, learn and, above all, spend unforgettable moments in the company of those we love the most.

Sea families
Just like how our families get together and share special moments, the various marine species such as fish, molluscs or algae also form communities in marine habitats. By observing these underwater families, both small and large, we can learn together about the importance of preserving these delicate ecosystems. Discover what’s underwater with the Association of Diving Centres in the Costa Brava, of which there are more than 36, from Blanes to Portbou.
But if you prefer to get to know the sea from above the water, you also have many options. You can go kayaking, to discover hidden corners, inaccessible coves and natural caves of great beauty. Or do it like the real pirates of the 16th century, with a cruise through the Montgrí, les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter Natural Park. And if you would like to take the helm, or perfect your mastery of sailing, you can learn how to sail with the champions at the Costa Brava Vela Palamós Yacht Club.
Once you have embarked on this marine adventure, we encourage you to delve into the dynamics of the fishermen. That is why we suggest a guided tour of the fish auction, and of the Fishing Museum – The Espai del Peix in Palamós, to learn about how fishery products are sold and how the sector is organised: characteristics of the auction, species that can be seen, types of boats that catch them, the fishing grounds where the fishermen work and how they are organised around the guild. The activity takes place on Fridays and can be done individually or with a small group.

Land families
After exploring the secrets of the sea, let’s take off our shoes and head to the beach at Alt Empordà to connect with the land. It’s the ideal way to get closer to the roots of the territory and learn the value of sustainability and respect for the environment.
For a 100% agritourism experience, we recommend visiting Mas Bes, in Vilobí d’Onyar, a farm with a dairy tradition dating back more than 100 years. During the guided tour, the little ones can have fun feeding and petting the different animals such as rabbits, goats, chickens, sheep, donkeys and bullocks. As well as this, you can get to know the day-to-day life of the countryside, visit the Museu de la Pagesia and even taste some products of its agro-shop.
Are you afraid of bees? A good way to see this insect more as a friend than as an enemy is to put on a suit and try beekeeping for a day, in Garriguella, with the Abellaires Empordaneses. Beekeeping offers a unique window into the world of bees, essential pollinators that support our planet’s biodiversity. Watching bee colonies work together in perfect harmony, families learn about the importance of teamwork and caring for our ecosystems.
All these experiences, which are filled with knowledge and which give you the chance to interact directly with nature, promise not only to teach you things, but also to touch the hearts of each and every participant. Will you join us?
