Ajuntament de Mont-ras, Plaça Ajuntament, 17253 Mont-ras, Espanya
The municipality of Mont-ras, in Baix Empordà, stretches from the foot of the Gavarres massif to the Mediterranean sea. Nestled inland, the town is crowned by the Gothic church of Sant Esteve, while other architectural highlights include pretty fortified farmhouses and watchtowers such as the Simona tower, designed to defend the area from attacks by pirates. Leaving the town for the coast, head to one of the unspoiled coves, such as Fontmorisca or Vedell. Ask one of the locals about the legend of Crit cove. This beauty spot offers a stunning view of the Formigues islands, which claimed the lives of many sailors.
