Palol de Revardit, in Pla de l’Estany, is a small town with hidden treasures, such as a castle, an ancient ice well and a 4,000-year-old dolmen. You can see the remains of the walls belonging to the castle, some of whose original towers are still standing. You can also explore the forests around the town, where some important events in Catalonia’s recent history were played out, as described so brilliantly by Javier Cercas in his novel Soldiers of Salamis, later made into a film by David Trueba
