Vila-sacra, in Alt Empordà, is a farming town. Set in a flat area, bathed by the Manol river, it’s surrounded by crop fields ideal for unhurried walks. The small town is crowned by the Romanesque church of Sant Esteve and the castle of Vila-sacra, better known as the Abbot’s Palace. The large windows and some large Gothic arches still remain, while an imposing ten-metre tall circular tower has been preserved intact.
