La Plaça, 2, 17754 Rabós d'Empordà, Espanya
The town of Rabós is situated right next to the Orlina river, whose name seems to indicate that many centuries ago its sand contained gold particles (the word or being the Catalan for gold). There’s probably no gold left today, but if you’re looking for treasures, there are some very interesting ones here. A good place to start is at the monastery of Sant Quirze de Colera, set in the Albera massif, declared a Natural Area of National Interest. The ponds of Basses de Faiet are also well worth a visit, and there are some lovely walks taking in megalithic monuments and small churches hidden away in charming spots.
