Besides the natural beauty, this is a place where human intervention and cultivated landscapes are also very much in evidence. It is a place of sea, beaches and coastal sands, brackish and saltwater marshes, coastal and saltwater lagoons, as well as freshwater lakes and marshes, with the natural park having promoted the recovery and creation of new lakes, such as those of El Cortalet and Europa. All this in addition to the rivers, canals and irrigation ditches that provide the habitat for plants of significant botanical and faunistic value. The land used for the cultivation of crops, such as rice, with these fields was recovered when the natural park was created, and pastures, scrubland and dry woodland areas, such as Els Aspres, dotted with dryland crops (such as vineyards), scrubland, pastures and forests of cork, holm and common oak along with the occasional pine. The plain is also home to numerous farmhouses, livestock pens and hamlets that form an integral part of the landscape and provide refuge for the local wild fauna and flora.
