In Bescanó, in Gironès, there’s an enormous hole waiting to be discovered: the crater of the Crosa volcano. With a diameter of 1,250 metres, it’s the largest crater on the Iberian Peninsula. There are three well signposted trails that cover the over 200 hectares occupied by the volcano, which form a Protected Area of Natural Interest. If you still have some energy left after the walk, you can explore the history of Bescanó by visiting the Palaeolithic settlement of Puig d’en Rigau, the Roman town of Montfullà or the medieval castle of Bescanó. And in March you can visit the tasty Sausage Fair.
