In the Middle Ages, the Christian religion was very present in the daily lives of the people of Girona. In Girona we already had a Cathedral, Episcopal See before the muslims settled in the city. The Franks introduced the Benedictines and the cult of Santa Maria. Girona was under different jurisdictions, the Bishop and the Abbot of Sant Pere de Galligants had great power along with the count or king.
