Key pointers for the new ski season in the Girona Pyrenees

We know that as soon as the cold sets in, you’re already keeping an eye on the sky and the snowfall, to be able to start the ski season as soon as possible!

With winter just around the corner, the ski resorts of the Girona Pyrenees are ready to offer a season full of new additions, embracing sustainability and innovation, and offering unique experiences for all visitors. This year will be a winter full of anniversaries to celebrate, and the resorts are committed to offering activities that go beyond skiing, promoting fun, gastronomy and respect for the environment, with charging points for electric vehicles, facilitating cleaner mobility. It’s great news for skiers and snowboarders who have a large ski area at their fingertips, with over 200 kilometres of slopes and first-class facilities. This is in addition to the Club Pirineu365 programme, which continues to grow, with more than 22,000 members already enjoying exclusive benefits, discounts and prize draws.

La Molina and Masella: 25 years of Alp 2500

La Molina and Masella are celebrating the 25th anniversary of Alp 2500, one of the largest skiable areas in the Pyrenees, with 131 slopes and 145 kilometres of skiing and snowboarding, as well as other winter sports. This season is special not only because of this milestone, but also because of the renovation of the Niu de l’Àliga restaurant, which is expanding its offer with mountain-style dishes and an updated gastronomic experience. In addition, the Cadí-Moixeró cable car, which is also celebrating its 25th anniversary, continues to be one of the best places to enjoy the spectacular views of the Pyrenees. Both resorts continue to be a reference point for families, groups of friends and expert skiers looking for fun on slopes with excellent services.

Vall de Núria: a leading valley in sustainability

Vall de Núria, a benchmark in environmental preservation due to its status as a natural area, with peaks reaching 3,000 metres, with car-free access (you can only walk up via the Camí Vell de Queralbs or the historic Vall de Núria Rack Railway), reaffirms its leadership in sustainability with the incorporation of the Torgo, the first 100% electric 4×4 vehicle, manufactured exclusively for the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC). This innovative mode of transport will improve the journey to the hostel in adverse weather conditions, also reducing emissions and noise. It is a key part of the Ecovall project, which is transforming Vall de Núria into a zero-emissions area. In addition to its commitment to the environment, the resort offers an extended Christmas programme, with activities for the whole family, making the valley a magical destination to enjoy the snow to the full.

Vallter: 50th anniversary and night-time experiences

Vallter, the most Mediterranean resort in terms of its views of the Costa Brava, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025 with special activities, including a commemoration in January which will look back on when the first ski lift was put into operation. The resort, located at an altitude of over 2,000 metres, is the gateway to the Capçaleres del Ter i del Freser Natural Park, and this season’s new addition is that it offers night-time excursions with snow-grooming machines, which allow you to combine the adventure of skiing with the beauty of the Pyrenean night.  In addition to expanding its gastronomic selection with the renovation of the cafeteria Les Marmotes, now converted into a brasserie, it offers mountain dishes with a traditional touch.

The resort, which is constantly being improved, has 34 kilometres of skiable terrain and 14 snowshoe circuits. Surrounded by forests and idyllic landscapes, it is an ideal destination for those seeking a day of tranquillity and sport, taking advantage of the tourist attractions of the municipality and the region. This year, the offer of routes adapted for different levels and personalised attention for visitors has been extended.
