Esponellà is a small rural town situated close to Banyoles and the Fluvià river. There was a time when the castle (now in ruins) dominated the area from a hilltop. The town’s past is also evident in its most important landmark, the bridge over the Fluvià river. The bridge has been blown up on two occasions during times of war to prevent enemy troops from getting past. Fortunately it has been rebuilt so that you can make your way across its 150 years of history.
