Agullana is typical of the mountainous side of Alt Empordà. The municipality is set in the Albera massif, with abundant forests of cork, holm oak and chestnut trees. Indeed, cork marked the history of the town in the 20th century, when there were over 40 factories dedicated to the manufacture of cork products. The modernist buildings constructed at the time stand as reminders of this prosperous time.
Little gems of ancient history are also on display in the form of prehistoric megalithic monuments: two dolmens, two menhirs and the necropolis of Can Bec de Baix.
