Since the beginning of 2024, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board has been an affiliated member of the Europarc Federation, which is dedicated to the practical conservation of nature and the sustainable development of Europe’s biodiversity. The federation is also responsible for managing European Charter for Sustainable Tourism certification.
The Tourist Board joined the Europarc Federation in order to support the natural parks and regions in the province of Girona that have signed the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (six of these eight parks are already certified), and to form part of a knowledge network, to promote joint projects and collaborate with other European regions to foster sustainable tourism, with particular emphasis on protecting natural spaces, one of our destination’s most valuable resources.
The Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees is proud to be a signatory of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative led by the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in collaboration with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation As a signatory of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, we endorse the common vision to address the root causes of plastic pollution.
We commit to eliminate the plastic items we don’t need; innovate so all plastics we do need are designed to be safely reused, recycled, or composted; and circulate everything we use to keep it in the economy and out of the environment.
