Amer is a town with a history that spans more than 1,000 years. The monastery of Santa Maria d’Amer, the chapel of Mare de Déu de la Pietat, Plaça de la Vila, the Torre de Rocasalva, the church of Sant Agustí de Lloret Salvatge, and the shrine of Santa Brígida stand testimony to golden age of this small town. The Amer valley has a wealth of woodland areas, with an array of chestnut, hazelnut, oak and pine forests. The River Brugent borders the eastern part of the town and flows into the River Ter. These natural assets make the town an ideal base to enjoy some of the many activities on offer. The Carrilet Olot-Girona Greenway lies at one of the entrances to the town and a visit to its old railway station is a must. And no visit would be complete without sampling the water from the famous Font Picant, a source of naturally carbonated volcanic waters.
