Carretera d'Olot, 32, 17857 Sant Joan les Fonts, Espanya
As its name indicates (fonts is the Catalan word for spring) there are plenty of springs in this municipality, over 80 of them in fact. Nevertheless, Sant Joan les Fonts is much more than the water that bubbles up from the ground. With one foot in the Alta Garrotxa Area of Natural Interest and the other in the Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone, part of this municipality is dotted with volcanoes and covered with lava. Nature is at its most spectacular here. There’s a long list of impressive monuments as well, such as the mediaeval bridge, the monastery and church of Sant Joan, the castle of Mont-ros or the fortress of Juvinyà.
