Fontanilles is set atop two small hills overlooking the great floodplain of the Daró, in Baix Empordà. The town is an oasis of calm, ideal for a leisurely visit. Attractions include the remains of the ancient castle, known as the Castellot, and the Miramar peak, which offers wonderful views, as its name would indicate (‘miramar’ means ‘overlooking the sea’). Just a few kilometres away, the small town of Llabià is worth visiting for the Romanesque church of Sant Romà. But remember, go at your own pace, there’s no hurry.
