Plaça Catalunya, 4, 17469 Fortià, Espanya
Fortià sits on the Empordà plain, in the interfluve between the Fluvià and Muga rivers. The village, set on rich agricultural land, contains several testaments to its past, one that is inextricably linked to the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, which has presided over the site since the tenth century. The Delme and the Mas del Monestir are two key elements to understanding the role played by the Benedictine monks in influencing the town’s current layout. Aside from the parish church, which presides over the municipality, the two most spectacular heritage elements to be found in this town that stands on the edge of the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà are the Casa Gran, a large Renaissance house built in 1628, and the nineteenth century neoclassical building that housed the former Fortianell Farm School.
