This biodynamic winery employs environmentally friendly practices, such as using natural farming methods, focusing on organic and sustainable viticulture and promoting biodiversity in the vineyards. Thanks to these initiatives, Vinyes d’Olivardots contributes to preserving the soil and local wildlife, ensuring that the Alt Empordà landscape retains its natural essence. La Vinyeta, in Mollet de Peralada, goes beyond wine production with its Transhumance project. This initiative combines viticulture with livestock farming, while also promoting traditional grazing as a method for controlling the vegetation and preventing wildfires. Sheep graze among the vines, helping to regenerate the soil and keep the landscape clear and protected. In this way, La Vinyeta shows how agriculture can form a natural alliance with the land. Espelt Viticultors is a winery that is firmly committed to organic production. From cultivation to winemaking, every stage of the process is focussed on minimising environmental impact. One of its most notable projects is the Mas Marès estate in Roses, which is perched above Cala Montjoi in the Cap de Creus Natural Park. This is a carefully maintained vineyard that avoids pesticides and synthetic products, promotes wildlife and fosters a balanced ecosystem. Mas Marès is also involved in the LIFE MIDMACC research project, which explores the benefits of managing the land using a mosaic landscape to combat climate change. Mas Llunes is located in Garriguella and is a living example of how viticulture can promote biodiversity. The winery has launched a specific project to enhance the diversity of its vineyards, through actions such as planting local shrubs and creating wildlife shelters. To preserve this biodiversity, they have also created two wildlife ponds that incorporate the vegetation found in the temporary ponds present in the Albera. This ecosystem helps to provide water for wildlife, especially during the dry summer months, while encouraging the presence of amphibians, birds, dragonflies, butterflies and other invertebrates. Mas Pòlit, located in Vilamaniscle, is another benchmark for sustainable winemaking. The proximity of the sea and the mountains create a harmonious rugged landscape, where the vines grow in poor, acidic soils – ideal for producing high-quality wines. This winery is dedicated to environmental preservation, using production processes that respect the natural cycles of the land. Its working model prioritises waste reduction and the efficient use of resources. It uses lightweight glass bottles to reduce its environmental impact, and all packaging materials are either recyclable or biodegradable, ensuring that the vineyard is not only productive but also sustainable in the long term. The wineries of the Costa Brava not only produce excellent wines, but also serve as veritable guardians of a natural heritage that must be preserved. Each vine symbolises a commitment to the land, and each harvest is a victory for the Mediterranean landscape. In light of this dedication, of the 27 wineries on the DO Empordà Wine Route, 16 are certified by the Catalan Council of Organic Production.
