Break your routine and start an active new chapter full of energy! Is it really possible to combine sport, nature, and food and wine tourism? Of course it is!
In this post, we break down ten such activities that you can do outdoors along the Costa Brava and in the Girona Pyrenees. There are eight natural parks that extend across the province of Girona, and a third of the region is protected land. So, it’s up to all of us to choose outdoor activities that support sustainable tourism and are respectful of both the environment and our little slice of earth
One activity that’s completely rooted in the region of Cap de Creus and the Albera massif is enokayaking, organised by SK Kayak. As you paddle along the Empordà coastline, you’ll get a splendid view of the beautiful vineyards from the sea before tasting a selection of wines from the Hugas de Batlle winery in Colera. To see the coastline from a different angle, try one of Naturalwalks‘ seaside excursions to pair edible wild flowers with DO Empordà wines.
And if you’d like to delve into the world of fishing, what better way than by taking part in fishing tourism activities in Palamós, Llançà or Roses and becoming a real fisher for a day?
The Masia Serra winery prepares routes around the area on burricleta e-bikes or Segways, finishing off with a DO Empordà wine tasting. Bacchus on Bikes also organises cycling routes from one winery to the next through the Empordà region. You pedal and the e-bike just keeps going and going, making for an all together effortless ride. The same activity is offered by the Empordàlia cooperative in the village of Vilajuïga, but you can always hire an e-bike on your own and take a signposted route through the stunning rice fields in Pals.
In Calonge, in the small historic winemaking area of Conca del Tinar, your e-bike can be swapped out for a horse or pony, and children and adults alike can enjoy a ride before finishing off the experience with a wine tasting at Viníric, the winery that organises the activity. Horse rides are also offered by the Vins de Taller winery in Siurana d’Empordà, an initiative run by Antoni Falcón involving a whole host of wine tourism activities. In the same Conca del Tinar region, between the sea and the mountains, La Gastronòmica organises a hiking route and wine tasting at the foot of the Gavarres, a massif located in an exceptional setting for walking that has been classified as an area of natural interest.
