The catalogue of wine-tourism initiatives that wineries in the Empordà Designation of Origin (D.O.) have developed over the past years is almost endless.

There are activities to enjoy during the day, evening and night. Many are recommended for the whole family, while others are designed for couples or groups of friends. This article offers a varied and original selection that invites visitors to discover this region that draws on its passion and experience going back thousands of years to produce outstanding wines.

Dramatised visits. Celler Cooperatiu d’Espolla, in Alt Empordà has been serving delicious local breakfasts in its vineyards for a long time and this option can be combined with another very enjoyable activity: a dramatised visit. Thanks to local resident Maria, who knows the winery well, you can learn about its history and facilities, the wine-making process and enjoy a few real anecdotes along the way. A wine-tasting is guaranteed, of course.

Music and wine, maestro! In recent years many music festivals have sprung up all over the place. One example is a real treat for friends and acquaintances of Mas Geli in Pals, in Baix Empordà. This small winery is located on a natural terrace with views of the Montgrí and Canigó mountains where you can admire incredible sunsets every evening. And it is here at this magical time of day where you can taste locally-sourced appetisers, toast with fantastic organic wines and listen to today’s great voices in an intimate setting.

Tastes by the sea. The grapes grow on vines that are firmly rooted in the earth, but they are also bathed in a Mediterranean breeze. Sampling a wine by the sea, or even aboard a traditional wooden boat, is a well-rounded experience and a privilege for all your senses. This type of activity can be arranged by several wineries, including Perelada Winery, with a wine-making tradition going back more than six-hundred years, and Empordàlia Winery.

Nights under the stars. This activity organised by *lavinyeta Winery introduces you to some extraordinary wines and, at the same time, the stunning sky above the Empordà region. It begins with the walk among the winery’s vineyards and olive groves in Masarac (Alt Empordà), then continues with a leisurely sunset dinner and ends with a fascinating talk given by the Astronomia des de l’Empordà group which reveals many curious facts about our solar system. A stellar plan!

Wake up among vineyards. The stars have ushered in the night and fuelled the desire for an intense and special rest. In Baix Empordà you can sleep among vineyards in a hypnotically beautiful setting in the Gavarres mountains: Finca Bell-lloc at the Brugarol Winery. In Alt Empordà, why not choose the elegant suites at Masia Serra Winery in Cantallops where you can also enjoy a gourmet tasting of wines and olive oil paired with artisan cheeses and cured meats. Another country hotel to bear in mind is found at the Martín Faixó Winery: it offers a warm and rustic welcome and, up in Perafita, in the middle of Cap de Creus, you are closer to Dionysus, the Greek God of wine and vineyards.
