Romanesque Cloister and Town Museum of Peralada

Centre de Turisme Cultural Sant Domènec - Ajuntament de Peralada

The Romanesque Cloister of Sant Domènec from the 12th century is the only surviving witness of an old Augustinian monastery. After the original community was extinguished, in 1578 it was acquired by the order of Sant Domènec, from where it gets its current name, and from 1835, it passed into the hands of the town council. During the 20th century the building surrounding it was demolished and between 2020-21 it was restored. The capitals have a diverse theme that combines vegetal and geometric motifs with zoological figures.
The Town Museum is an interactive and dynamic space which features the figure of the chronicler Ramon Muntaner, the medieval Peralada and the landscape and cultural riches of the Empordà, introducing the visitor to the Middle Ages and exhibiting archaeological pieces.
